Welcome from the Officer Commanding

Welcome to 402 (Gravesend) Squadron.

Every week, young people from across Gravesend and the surrounding communities come together to challenge themselves, develop new skills and take part in experiences that many people never have the opportunity to enjoy.

Whether flying an aircraft, completing the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, taking part in adventure training or supporting local community events, our cadets are encouraged to grow in confidence, character and resilience.

Our aim is simple: to provide a safe, welcoming and ambitious environment in which every young person is encouraged to discover what they are capable of achieving. Success at 402 Squadron is not measured solely by badges, qualifications or promotion, but by the confidence, friendships and life skills our cadets develop during their time with us.

We recognise that joining any new organisation is a significant step for both young people and their families. We believe the best outcomes are achieved when the Squadron and parents work together, and we are committed to maintaining open communication, clear expectations and a supportive environment throughout every cadet’s journey.

Our Squadron is guided by the Royal Air Force values of Respect, Integrity, Service and Excellence. These values shape the standards we set, the way we treat one another and the contribution we seek to make within our local community.
